BIOGRAPHY
AMARA Quartet is the female expression of Fado and stands out for its elegance, strength and beauty. Their music aims to carry on the Fado tradition from a contemporary perspective, exploring new tales of poetry.
The ensemble was founded in July 2020 in the city of Porto, Portugal, by Joana Almeida, and it is the first female Fado Quartet in the history of Portugal.
The “Las Brujas Del Fado” concert arises from the need to break with precepts and take tradition in the search for gender parity and artistic individuality.
AMARA, in Portuguese, means the original love and Fado music was the passion that interconnected the path of these four ladies.
The music of the AMARA Quartet blends the heritage of the wide world of Traditional Fado with subtle elements of contemporary classical music and rich Portuguese folk music, presenting a distinct repertoire with original compositions and special arrangements, using a unique sonority.
