BIOGRAPHY

Described as “a truly superb interpreter” by The Classical Source, Ana Beatriz Ferreira has performed in countries including Portugal, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Spain. She has also appeared as a soloist with several orchestras, including the Portuguese Philharmonic Orchestra, Filarmonia das Beiras Orchestra, Maia Chamber Orchestra, Cardiff University Symphony Orchestra, and the Cardiff Contemporary Music Group.

Recent performance highlights include opening the Piano City Festival in Lisbon in September 2024, premiering the complete solo piano works of Joly Braga Santos in Cardiff, touring Portugal with Joly Braga Santos’ Piano Concerto alongside the Portuguese Philharmonic Orchestra under conductor Osvaldo Ferreira, and performing two concerts in Spain as part of the XVI International Music Festival of Vitoria-Gasteiz and Bilbao’s Semana Grande.

Ana Beatriz completed her PhD in Piano Performance at Cardiff University, where she studied on a full scholarship. She is also an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Piano from the Royal College of Music in London, where she studied with Ruth Nye MBE (one of the rare disciples of Claudio Arrau), Gordon Fergus-Thompson, and Dina Parakhina. Ana Beatriz has won several competitions, including the First Prize at the Lopes-Graça Competition, and has been awarded four Merit and Excellence Prizes by the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation.

She has also participated in masterclasses with renowned pianists such as Paul Badura-Skoda, Vitaly Margulis, Boris Petrushansky, and Dmitri Alexeev.

In addition to her performing career, Ana Beatriz is a Piano Tutor at Cardiff University, where she teaches piano to undergraduate and postgraduate students and is responsible for the “Piano Collaboration” module. She also teaches piano at the Cardiff International School of Music. She has delivered masterclasses in Portugal, the UK, and, more recently, Thailand at Silpakorn University’s Department of Music in Bangkok.

In 2024, Ana Beatriz released a CD featuring the complete works of Joly Braga Santos for solo piano, as well as for violin and piano, in collaboration with Slovenian violinist Lana Trotovšek.
